“Quick Guide to Obtaining Non-Resident Nepali Citizenship”

The NRN Citizenship can be obtained by two individuals :
i. Foreign Citizen of Nepali Origin,

ii. Nepali citizen residing abroad.

In this blog Context, we will be talking about obtaining NRN Citizenship by a Foreign Citizen of Nepali Origin.

A Foreign Citizen of Nepali Origin can be differentiated with two documents given i.e., the foreigner holds a foreign Citizenship / Passport & either one of the three generations must be a Nepali Citizen. Therefore, a foreigner fulfilling aforesaid requirements and one who is above the age of 18 years can obtain their NRN citizenship from the Concerned Chief District Office, Nepal.

i. Applicant's Citizenship (Photocopy)

ii. Applicant's Passport (Photocopy)

iii. A Copy of Immigration stamp on the applicant's passport

iv. A Copy of Nepali Citizenship of their Parents/ Grand Parents

v. Passport Size Photos (8/8) (all photos must be identical )

vi. Birth Certificate (Photocopy)

vii. Identify your Place of Residence in the foreign land (permanent) & in Nepal (temporary).

i. अनुसुची ८- ग बमोजिमको फाराम

ii. न.पा. / गा.पा. को हकमा सिफारिस फारम

iii. सनाखत फारम

iv. प्रतिबद्दता फारम

v. शपथ

vi. रु. १० को टिकट

All the document is to be filled in National Language i.e, Nepali. A minor mistake in the application form could lead you to obtain the citizenship with the same error.

i. Identify your Concerned CDO

ii. Fill all the forms and carry all aforesaid documents

iii. Submit the forms and attach the document to the Preliminary authority, he will suggest you to go to another room after verfication

iv. Documents will be futher verified in the other room and you will be asked to go to the room where you will be given a document to hand over to the Police

v. The documents will be given to you and you'll have to visit the Station mentioned therein

vi. alongside, there will be a document of approval from your concerned ward (सिफारिस निवेदन)

vii. Get the Police Clearance Report & obtaining an approval from your Concerned Ward. A revenue of Nrs. 10,000/- will be levied in the Ward.

vii. Gather all the documents and visit your CDO again, this time you are close to getting your NRN Citizenship. However, you must take a Nepali Citizen who will be a testimony for your Citizenship

viii. Follow all the process asked by the Authority there, not to forget the Nepali Citizen mentioned earlier must also carry their Original Citizenship

ix. You data will be uploaded in the Ministry of Home affairs software followed by all other requirements

x. Lastly, you will be asked to collect your NRN Citizenship from a particular window where you'll be asked to sign in a Booklet used for Record-keeping. Don't loose your Photo's. It will be needed there.
